Summary: Being a single parent can be a taxing experience. Especially if your kid's growing up to be a little sociopath. But then again, what could the reason be for such troubled lives? Could it be a screw loose in either parent or child...or is something sinister pulling strings and waiting to strike?

History: Amelia Vanek isn't having the greatest time as a single mother. She lost her husband in a car wreck, she's constantly sleep-deprived, and her son Samuel is constantly building weapons and starting fights. Oh right, the former thing. He's convinced there's a monster after his family. A humanoid demon known as the Babadook, which appears and torments anyone who dares acknowledge it. As the Vaneks' lives get steadily worse, it becomes more and more apparent that the Babadook is truly testing them, hoping to get his hands on Samuel...

Final Fate: After their bond sends the Babadook packing, they proceed to get a lot better when it comes to getting along and maintaining sanity. Mainly because they've got the being locked up in the basement, feeding it worms so that it doesn't come out.

Powers/Abilities: Manipulation of reality, possession, illusions. Also, nothing can kill it.

Weakness: Genuine displays of love, as well as a lack of fear, can render the Babadook incredibly weak and timid.

Scariness Factor: 4-The personification of depression-induced madness, the Babadook is as enigmatic as it is horrifying. What's worse is just how ambiguous it is. For all we know, Amelia really was insane, and her defeating the being was just a means of overcoming it. Either way, we wouldn’t let our kids near this razor-clawed ghoul in a nice suit.

Trivia: -The Babadook's name is derived from the Hebrew phrase "ba-badook", which roughly means "he's guaranteed to come".

-Due to a categorizing mishap, the film was advertised as a LGBT film on Netflix. People proceeded to make the Babadook a gay icon as a joke for a while. Despite him being, you know, a child predator. Fools.
